The School of Communication and the Arts prepares students for a global future. Students develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and researching and expressing ideas and information. Simultaneously, they are also encouraged to develop a range of complementary skills - including creative thinking and practice, teamwork skills, digital and visual literacies, and cultural and ethical awareness.
The School offers specialisations in the field of Creative Arts, including Visual Arts, Performance Studies, Music, Professional Writing, Creative Writing and Digital Media . Other available areas of study include Communication Studies, Gender Studies, Literary Studies, Public Relations, Vietnamese and Media Studies. Our academic staff who teach these specialisations have expert qualifications and industry experience, and are currently engaged actively in industry practice and research.

The School of Communication and the Arts offers final year students a Professional Placement Program to provide industry experience in their chosen field. Students also undertake professional projects in conjunction with industry and community organisations.

The international outlook of the school is strongly reflected in the opportunities provided for students to participate in international student exchange and other overseas study experiences, and in the emphasis placed on language acquisition and development both in English and other languages.
We also partner with institutions overseas such as Northwest University in Xi'an, China.
The School of Communication and the Arts offers students a range of Learning in the Workplace and Community opportunities. The Professional Placement Program facilitates our students enrolled in their final year of their Public Relations, Professional Writing or Digital Media degree, into a professional placement for 15 days with a qualified supervisor from within industry, to enable students to gain some industry experience.
Industry and community organizations work closely with Victoria University students in professional projects. This gives them the opportunity to utilise the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout their degree, and put them into practice in real-life scenarios. Some recent projects have included our Public Relations students developing a marketing campaign for the Visy Cares Hub and our Advanced Media Production students writing and producing a short DVD on safety in conjunction with Victoria Police. Projects are supervised by Victoria University staff with specialist expertise in the range of project areas available.
