Study at a university overseas and get credit towards your Victoria University (VU) degree.

If you're a current VU student and have completed at least one year of your course, find out how you can participate in our Student Exchange Program in Europe, Asia or America for a semester or a full year.

We also offer generous travel grants to all eligible VU exchange students. Application closing dates are available for 2011.

About exchange

As an exchange student you continue to pay your Victoria University fees for the semester or year of study overseas and do not pay tuition fees at the overseas institution. To get started on your exchange experience:

Application closing dates

  • Semester 2 placement 2012 - 15 December 2011
  • Semester 1 placement 2013 - 31 July 2012

Find out more about applying for the exchange program or for any questions contact the Victoria abroad team.

Short term overseas study programs

If you're interested in studying for credit during non-teaching periods, and curious about travelling to Asia, Europe or the America's, try a short program.

These short-term overseas study options include:

  • study tours
  • language courses
  • business or leadership programs
  • volunteering experiences
  • internships.

The programs are taught in English and usually run for 2-6 weeks during the summer and winter holidays. They are an excellent addition to any resume and you may be able to have them credited to your degree.

Choose a study tour from one of VU's exchange partner institutions or, if you don't mind paying up-front fees, choose a Study Abroad or  Australian Institute for Mobility (AIM) Overseas program. Whichever program you choose, you should be eligible for a travel grant. Use these extra funds to help pay for accommodation, travel and other expenses.

Travel advisories

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) supports Australians travelling overseas and to help avoid difficulties, they maintain travel advisories for approximately 160 countries/destinations. These are graded according to DFAT's overall assessment of the security situation and are designed to help the traveller assess the level of risk they may face in a particular country.

There are five different levels of advice:

  • be alert to your own security
  • exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety
  • exercise a high degree of caution
  • reconsider your need to travel
  • advised not to travel

Prior to travelling, we recommend that you access http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/ to determine the level of advice assigned to your destination(s). It is also important that you read the Victoria University's Travel Policy.

Study at VU on exchange

If you are a non-Australian resident studying at an institution outside of Australia, and you are interested in coming to Victoria University as part of your qualification, visit our study abroad and exchange page to see if you are eligible.
