Graduation

If you have completed or nearly completed your course you must formally apply in order to receive your certificate (award). See Applying to graduate for information and instructions, and Graduation ceremonies for information about participating in a formal graduation ceremony in Melbourne or offshore.

Applying to graduate

To receive your award (certificate), you must apply to graduate online or complete an Application for award form by the due date.

If you complete your course in semester 2, the due date is 31 January the following year. If you complete your course in semester 1, the due date is 31 July that year. You do not have to wait for your results to be released before applying for your award. You will receive information about attending graduation ceremonies after you submit your application.

Overdue fees or fines

You must pay all overdue fees or fines in order to receive a Letter of Completion or graduate.

Name printed on award

The name printed on your award will be identical to the name on your student enrolment record. Any variation to your name will require you to complete and submit a Personal details amendment form with supporting documentation, either original or certified copy.

It is very important that when you submit your form, whether by mail, fax, or in person at a Student Service Centre, you must advise that a copy needs to be sent to the Graduation office.

Results

As you can't graduate with any of your results outstanding, your results must be finalised and published before you can be deemed eligible to graduate by your Faculty.

Please see the examinations webpage for result release dates.

Official Letter of Completion

If you require an Official Letter of Completion urgently for employment or further study purposes, you need to let us know when you apply to graduate.

You can add a note or comment to your application to graduate, stating that you would like a Letter of Completion processed as a matter of urgency and explaining why you need the letter early. Once approval has been received from the relevant Faculty, an Official Letter of Completion will be posted to you.

Please allow at least two to three weeks to receive your letter .

An AUD$12.00 fee applies if you have previously graduated and require an additional or replacement Letter of Completion.

Continuing Education Course procedure for obtaining award

If you have completed a Continuing Education Course you are not eligible to receive an academic award. Your certificate or statement will be given to you by the faculty or school who offered the course. You should not apply for an award but rather go to your department to enquire about your certificate or statement. All other students should apply to graduate.
