While studying at Victoria University you may be required to sit for exams for all or part of the subjects you study. Here we give you everything you need to know about where to go, what you need, and when to turn up!

Rules and regulations

Make sure you understand and comply with the rules and regulations that apply to formal University examinations.

Timetables

You need to make sure you have all the information you need. It's your responsibility to access your examination timetable/s for Summer School, Semester 1, Semester 2 and Special and Supplementary examinations. You can find the examination timetable on the MYVU Portal when it is released.

Mis-reading the exam timetable will not be accepted as sufficient cause for failing to attend an examination. Please see exam rules and regulations for more information.

The Semester 3, 2012 Summer School examination timetable and individual student examination timetables will be displayed by close of business Monday 30 January.

The Semester 1, 2012 examination timetable will be displayed from Monday 30 April. Individual student examination timetables will be displayed from Monday 21 May.

The Semester 1, 2012 Special and Supplementary examination timetable and individual student examination timetables will be displayed by close of business Wednesday 11 July.

The Semester 4, 2012 Winter School examination timetable and individual student examination timetables will be displayed by close of business Wednesday 11 July.

Examination venue

The Semester 1, 2012 examinations will be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

The Semester 1, 2012 Special and Supplementary examinations will be held at the St Albans campus.

The Semester 3, 2012 Summer School examinations will be held at the St Albans campus.

You are strongly advised not to bring a bag and/or personal items to the exam venue. The University takes no responsibility for any loss or damage to those items.

Examination start times

Your exam will be scheduled either in the morning or in the afternoon. Make sure that you arrive on time.

The morning session starts at 9.30am.
The afternoon session starts at 2.00pm.

Getting to your exam

You can take a bus, tram or train to your exam as well as drive.

Melbourne Showgrounds

Public transport

  • Bus 472 stops opposite the Showgrounds at Gate 5. You will have an approximately five minute walk to the exam buildings.
  • Tram 57 stops outside the Showgrounds at the main gate in Epsom Road. You will have an approximately five minute walk to the exam buildings.
  • Tram 82 stops at the intersection of Maribyrnong Road and Union Road (Ascot Vale). You will have an approximately 15 minute walk to the Showgrounds.
  • Newmarket railway station on the Craigieburn line is an approximately 10 minute walk to the Showgrounds precinct.

Pedestrian access

All pedestrian access to the showgrounds is via Gate 4, located in Langs Road.

By car

Important car parking gate change

Entry to the showgrounds is via Gate 5, located in Langs Road.

A fee of $5 applies for parking at the Showgrounds - you need to pay in cash at the gate. You should plan to arrive at your exam at least one hour before it starts, as traffic delays may occur.

St Albans Campus

All of the following buses stop at the St Albans railway station: 419, 421, 422, 423, 424 and 425. The St Albans train station (Sydenham Line) is an approximate 10 minute walk to the St Albans Campus.

An important part of sitting your exams is finding out how you did! Information about accessing your TAFE and higher education exam results and a description of the academic results codes provide you with all the useful details.

Higher Education students

Semester 3, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Friday 24 February 2012.

Semester 1, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Monday 9 July 2012.

Semester 4, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Monday 6 August 2012.

Semester 2, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Monday 26 November 2012.

Special and Supplementary Exams Semester 1 and 2, 2012 - These results will be updated on MYVU Portal as soon as the exams have been marked by the relevant lecturer and the marks forwarded to the relevant Faculty office for processing.

For more specific information about your results contact your Faculty office. All queries concerning results should be directed to your lecturer or Faculty office.

Vocational / Further Education students

Semester 1, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Monday 23 July.

Semester 2 and 5, 2012 - Results displayed on MYVU Portal from Monday 10 December.

Password to access your results

The first time you login to MYVU Portal to check your results, your default password is your date of birth in six digits (DDMMYY). For example if you were born on 2 January 1978, your password is 020178. If you have lost or forgotten your password, please Ask a question in ASKVU or phone +613 9919 6100.

Supplementary examinations for higher education students

If you receive an E grade you will be offered Supplementary assessment for the unit in the form of an exam. A formal supplementary exam period applies to the Semester 1 and 2 exams. These exams are held at the St Albans campus.

If your mark is between 45 and 49 you are entitled to Supplementary assessment for the unit. You will need to contact your lecturer to find out how the supplementary assessment will be provided.

Exam timetables for these exams will be available on MYVU Portal. Your faculty office or unit of study lecturer will have information on Supplementary exams during all other exam periods. If you would like information about all other units of study please follow the advice provided to you by your faculty
