About this course

Small business operators can experience substantial savings in IT infrastructure by setting up Linux servers in their business environment. This workshop shows you how to set up and maintain a Linux based server suitable for a Small Business Environment that uses various client Operating Systems.

The course has been developed by the School of Information Technology and Creative Industries with active support from the Victorian ICT Specialist Centre.

What you will learn:

  • Install SME
  • Disk partitioning, RAID controllers
  • Connect to Internet and use Internet services
  • How to set up and use SSH
  • Installing application and updating the system
  • File systems, permissions and data backup
  • Creating and managing users and groups
  • Using SME web interface to administer Linux
  • How to setup a file server using SAMBA with support for roaming profiles
  • How to backup your server
  • How to secure your server - including Clam Antivirus
  • How to setup a proxy server
  • How to monitor and troubleshoot your server
