Propagating Seeds and Cuttings

This three hour course has been designed to teach participants the techniques to germinate seeds successfully and how to establish a healthy root system on cuttings.
Participants will learn from practical experience by taking cuttings and planting seeds. They will learn how to encourage root development on the different types of wood, what potting mix to use and how to establish a growing on area to care for them until they are ready to be planted out. They will also learn how to recognise viable seeds, how to plant seeds correctly, how to care for them and recognise when they are ready to plant into the garden.
Learn the skills necessary to:
- select the right wood to take soft wood, semi hard wood and hard wood cuttings.
- choose correct potting mix to use for each of these operations
- ascertain if a seed is alive and healthy
- determine whether to plant seeds directly into the garden or start them off in pots
- be aware of basic pest and disease control
