This course is aimed at providing a first quality professional qualification for education agents in Australia.
Delivered by the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre, this course will provide participants with education in relevant areas of practice to enable them to qualify with up to date knowledge and skills required to work as an education agent.

Course contents
The course is divided into seven modules. Within each there are a variety of topics. There are assessment tasks in each module, which will assist participants to gain feedback on their understanding and development of skills. The classes comprise lectures, practical exercises and group work. The classes will be interactive and each participant will receive individual support dependent on their needs.
Module 1 - Introduction to Professional Education Practice
This module aims to provide participants with an overview and a basic understanding of the legislative and policy scheme relevant to the education agent industry, the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) and professional service. Participants will also be equipped with the legal and literacy skills required to complete assessment tasks and associated activities.
Module 2 - Legislation and Policy
This module aims to provide participants a more specific analysis of the legislation relevant to practicing as an education agent. Participants will be versed in the statutory framework relevant to education services for overseas participants. the National Code of Practice, consumer law, migration law, Federal criminal law and privacy law. This module will also provide an overview of criminal consequences emanating from non-compliance with relevant legislative instruments.
Module 3 - Contractual Responsibilities
This module aims to provide participants with an understanding and working knowledge of contract law, including what constitutes a breach of contract and the potential consequences resulting from a breach. Participants will be taught how to interpret contractual provisions and understand the meaning of important contractual terms and conditions.
Module 4 - Duties and Responsibilities of an Agent
This module aims to equip participants with an understanding and awareness of the duties, rights, responsibilites and liabilities of an agent.
Module 5 - Informed Consent
This module introduces participants to the concept of informed consent. Participants will become familiar with the informed consent defence and other key issues relevant to consent in the context of the education agent industry. Participants will also learn about the importance of defining scope of service in an agency relationship.
Module 6 - Practice Management
In this module, participants will learn about best practice file management, including effective documentation policy and processes. This module also covers presentation and marketing skills, and provides participants with the opportunity to learn effective client and stakeholder communication techniques.
Module 7 - Ethics and Professional Standards
In this module, participants will be given the opportunity to participate in a number of practical problem solving activities. These activities are based on common ethical dilemmas encountered by education agents in practice. Participants will also be taught how to recognise and respond to ethical problems.
