The unit "WRBBS514A Provide Superficial Lymph Drainage Massage" had been included as an elective in the Diploma of Beauty Therapy since the introduction of the current training package in 2004. While a similar unit was included as an elective in the curriculum based course before 2000, it was subsequently not included in the first training package introduced in 2000. The reintroduction of this unit reflects the recognition that this is an important skill in beauty therapy which cannot be duplicated adequately using mechanical devices and without the detailed knowledge of the lymphatic system that this unit requires. There are many practising beauty therapists who either completed their training when this unit was not available or did not select it as an elective and have now recognised that it contains important and valuable skills.
