Maintain and Service Equipment in Hazardous Areas

Catered to permanent trades maintenance positions and supervisors. Correct inspection and maintenance techniques improve safety and production times.

Designed for the electrical and instrumentation trades (including mechanical trades holding a disconnect/reconnect licence) and maintenance department supervisors working in hazardous areas.

Wheat, flour, vegetable oils, sugars etc can be just as explosive as chemicals typically found in the Petrol/Chemical industry. Your organisation, in the interest of safety may need maintenance staff as well as preferred contractors to attend this course as outlined below.

This course complies with the latest AS-NZS 4761-2008 competency.

Competency based training includes but is not limited to:

  • Hazardous areas and explosion-protection principles
  • Hazardous areas and explosion-protection techniques, (methods of protection) - Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex i, Ex s, Ex q, Ex m, Ex p, Ex v, Ex tD (DIP) mixed and others.
  • Recognition of Area Classification - Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2 & Zone 20, Zone 21, Zone 22.
  • Temperature Class - T1, T2, T3, T4, T5
  • Gas Groups - I, IIA, IIB, IIC
  • Dust Groups - IIIA, IIIB, IIIC
  • Introduction to Selection of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Introduction to Installation of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Maintain and service electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Visual Inspections of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Close and Detailed inspections of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Certificates and Marking of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
  • Verification Dossier for hazardous areas.
  • Introduction to Testing of Electrical installation in Hazardous Areas.

Courses can be run at our Sunshine campus or on site (including interstate).

On site and/or customised courses are available on demand and the minimum number of participants requires is five. Additional courses can be booked for five or more participants.

Refresher courses are recommended every two to three years.

At completion of any of the Hazardous Areas short courses, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the competencies covered by the course.

The participant will also be issued a card that can be presented to demonstrate competency and safe work practices training in Hazardous Areas.

The Statement of Attainment will be recognised by any Registered Training Organisation and can be used as credits towards any relevant Electrotechnology qualification.

Please note: AS/NZS 60079.14-2009 HAZARDOUS AREAS INSTALLATIONS and AS/NZS 60079.10-2009 CLASSIFICATIONS OF HAZARDOUS AREAS standards have been released. Our courses are continuously updated to suit new and updated standards.

UEENEEM013B Ensure the safety of hazardous areas (manage compliance of hazardous areas)

Class sizes are limited to eight people and four forklifts so that all students gain the maximum operating experience.
