Our Graduate Certificate in International Community Development program is designed to prepare students for a strong foundation and understanding of knowledge in Community Development.
Students are required to complete core subjects such as ‘Community Development Theory and Practices’ and ‘Transnational Gender and Human Rights’ and two elective subjects.
We have agreements with other universities, such as the National University of Timor Leste (UNTL) as well as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) which enrich our program. For example, our college jointly convenes at a regular conference in Timor Leste with UNTL.

Course Objectives
This course provides students with the opportunity to:
- Identify historical and contemporary issues in international community development;
- Identify different schools of thought on the meaning and character of globalisation and its impact on international community development;
- Use critical analytical skills as well as communication and writing skills to discuss and debate key theories and academic concepts;
- Apply knowledge and skills in a real world context, and network with industry partners and stakeholders.
Units and electives
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in International Community Development students must complete a total of 48 credit points. Elective units may be available during summer and winter semesters to give students the option of fast tracking their studies.

What's a unit?
A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
Credits
Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.
Admission Information
- International: The admission requirement for the Graduate Diploma course is a three year first degree or equivalent. IELTS minimum 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent.
- Mature: The entry requirement to the Graduate Certificate is the completion of a three-year undergraduate degree or equivalent, normally with a credit rating or above in the final year units of study.
