Our Graduate Diploma in International Community Development program is designed to prepare students for a strong foundation and understanding of knowledge as well as practical skills in Community Development. 

Key Community Development Theories and Practices will be examined and explored in the course.  

Students are required to complete core subjects such as ‘Community Development Theory and Practices’ and ‘Transnational Gender and Human Rights’, ‘Community Development Project Design and Management’ and ‘Management of NGOs’ and four elective subjects.

The school has agreements with other universities, such as the National University of Timor Leste (UNTL) and NGOs which enrich our program. For example 

  • Study tour unit to East Timor. The school also jointly convenes a regular conference in Timor Leste with UNTL.

Successful completion will lead you to admission to the Master of International Community Development.

Course Objectives

Graduates of this course will be able to:

  1. Identify historical and contemporary issues in international community development;
  2. Identify different schools of thought on the meaning and character of globalisation and its impact on international community development;
  3. Use critical analytical skills as well as communication and writing skills to discuss and debate key theories and academic concepts;
  4. Apply knowledge and skills in a real world context, and network with industry partners and stakeholders.

Units and electives

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in International Community Development students must complete a total of 96 credit points. Elective units may be available during summer and winter semesters to give students the options of fast tracking their studies.

Plus one of the following two units:

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Credits

Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Admission Information

  • Mature: The entry requirement to the Graduate Diploma is the completion of a three-year undergraduate degree or equivalent, normally with a credit rating or above in the final year units of study.
