Install, Maintain and Service Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas

Wheat, flour, vegetable oils and sugars can be just as explosive as chemicals typically found in the Petrol/Chemical industry.

In the interest of safety your organisation may need maintenance staff as well as preferred contractors to attend one of the courses outlined below.

The Install, Maintain and Service Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas course complies with the latest AS-NZS 4761-2008 competency.

Competency based training includes but is not limited to:

  • Hazardous areas and explosion-protection principles
  • Hazardous areas and explosion-protection techniques (methods of protection) - Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex i, Ex s, Ex q, Ex m, Ex p, Ex v, Ex tD (DIP) mixed and others
  • Recognition of Area Classification - Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2 & Zone 20, Zone 21, Zone 22
  • Temperature Class - T1, T2, T3, T4, T5
  • Gas Groups - I, IIA, IIB, IIC
  • Dust Groups - IIIA, IIIB, IIIC
  • Selection of electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Installation of electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Maintain and service electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Visual inspections of electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Close and detailed inspections of electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Certificates and marking of electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  • Verification Dossier for hazardous areas
  • Testing of electrical installation in hazardous areas

At completion of any of the Hazardous Areas short courses, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the competencies covered by the course.

Participants will also be issued a card that can be presented to verify competency and safe work practices training.

The Statement of Attainment can be used as credits towards any relevant Electrotechnology qualification.

  • Attend to breakdowns in hazardous areas
  • Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems in hazardous areas
  • Maintain equipment in hazardous areas
  • Conduct close inspection of existing hazardous areas installations
  • Conduct detailed inspection of hazardous areas installations
  • Ensure the safety of hazardous areas
