Course Objectives
Students will gain theoretical knowledge and specialised skills to facilitate the development and resourcing of communities in a range of contexts.

A wide range of elective units are available to address workplace requirements at this level or higher in the Community Services / Health Training Packages and other relevant national endorsed Training Packages approved by the School of Community Services.

To gain entry into Diploma of Community Development a candidate must be recognised as competent in HLTOHS300A Contribute to OHS processes
OR
Have sufficient relevant experience and knowledge of community development work to indicate likely success at this level of qualification in a job role involving:
• The application of knowledge with depth in some areas and demonstration of a broad range of technical and other skills
• A wide range of tasks and roles in a variety of contexts, with complexity in the range
and choices of actions required and including work with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
• The exercise of discretionary judgement and decision making under general guidance.
What's a unit?
A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
Admission Information
- Year 12: Successful completion of VCE/VCAL or equivalent
- International: IELTS 5.5
- Mature: Applicants will be assessed by the Selection officer as being capable of successfully completing the course. You may receive recognition of prior learning based on skills and knowledge acquired through previous study, as in articulation, informal or formal learning or from work and/or life experience.
- Other: Applicants must have 2 years work experience and knowledge of community development or have achieved specified competency from the Certificate IV in Community Development.
