Course Objectives

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are competent in a prescribed range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including facial massage, lash and brow treatments, nail technology services, make-up, waxing, body massage, and aromatherapy; as well as providing advice on and selling of retail skin care and cosmetic products. Work is undertaken as skilled beauty therapists in the beauty therapy services stream of the beauty industry. This qualification is designed to reflect the role of those who work relatively autonomously. It involves the performance of a broad range of skilled applications, including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and some provision of leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of skills.

Units and electives

To achieve a Diploma of Beauty Therapy, a total of 33 units must be completed. This includes:

  • all 22 core units
  • 11 electives

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • TAFE: Certificate III or higher
  • Year 12: Successful completion of VCE
  • International: IELTS 5.5
  • Mature: Minimum age of 18 and one year out of school

  2. Submit a TAFE Direct Entry Application form
  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
