Course Objectives
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who undertake the responsibilities required of a member or board member of an Indigenous corporation. Board members would bring a wide range of knowledge, skills, talents and experience to their organisations. Boards of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community managed organisations operate in two worlds, with cultural obligations to their community as well as legal and financial obligations to the wider community and funding bodies.
In their special role of leading their organisations, board members would ensure that they are individually and collectively contributing the best value to the board, organisation and community while fulfilling their duties
Units and electives
To achieve the Certificate IV in Business (Governance) a total of 12 units must be completed; 7 core units plus 5 elective units.
Up to 2 elective units may be selected from elsewhere in the Business Services Training Package or any other endorsed Training Package, or accredited course provided they are relevant to the work of Indigenous Community Boards of Management.
Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and the qualification level.
Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from the Business Services Training Package

What's a unit?
A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
