This is an industry based traineeship for individuals wanting to be competent in a range of well-developed tourism sales, operational and tour delivery skills. Work would be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered, or a combination of both.

The field includes any destination, local or regional area, tourist precinct, site, attraction or onboard form of transportation.

The qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context, using relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

Course Objectives

This qualification provides training at Certificate III level for individuals wanting to be competent in a range of well-developed tourism sales, operational and tour delivery skills. Work would be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered or a combination of both. The field includes any destination, local or regional area, tourist precinct, site, attraction or onboard form of transportation. The qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

To achieve a Certificate III in Tourism, 15 units must be completed: all 5 core units and 1 0 elective units.

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • Students are to be enrolled under the New Apprenticeship Scheme as a trainee. There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Applicants may be required to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Head of School that they have achieved competency in the following units or equivalent.

  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    Details about extra requirements are available from the Faculty of Technical and Trades Innovation.

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
