Become a fully qualified plant operator and open the door to civil construction work, including roads, bridges, dams, waterworks and trenches.

You will train in power tools and in carrying out concrete work, learn how to control traffic and how to operate large machinery.This course is offered as a traineeship, the qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with civil construction machinery, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

Course Objectives

Units and electives

Successful completion of nineteen (19) units of competency made up of:

  • fourteen (14) core units of competency, and
  • five (5) elective units from the electives list below, including
  • one (1) unit from Group A electives listed below AND two (2) units from Group B electives listed below OR
  • two (2) units from the Group A electives listed below

Admission Information

  • TAFE: Students enrolled as apprentices or trainees must be employed under the Apprenticeship Training Scheme. Selection is conducted by the employer.

  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:

    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
