Elective Competency Standard Units
In accordance with Schedule 2 which forms an integral part of this qualification, achieve a Unit Strand total of at least 6 as specified.
The requirements for awarding this qualification are that the following are successfully achieved: - All of the Core competency standard units; - 1 Stream Core competency standard unit; - 6 Elective competency standard units as prescribed in the respective Schedule; and - All the required prerequisite competency standard units have been met as required.

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
