Course Objectives

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.

Units and electives

Students must successfully complete 12 units: 6 core units and 6 elective units in accordance with the package rules specified in SIT07 Training Package.

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • To qualify for admission to the course, applicants must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Head of School that they are capable of successfully completing the course by completing a School pre-selection form. Recognition of prior learning may be available based on skills and knowledge acquired by the applicant through previous study, as in articulation, informal or formal learning or from work and/or life experience. Complete an application for admission through a TAFE Direct Admission form. Applicants are advised to attend an information session.

  2. Submit a TAFE Direct Entry Application form
  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    Details about extra requirements are available from the Trades College.

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
