Begin your future in Civil Construction.

Civil construction is anything to do with earth, water or transport infrastructure. In civil construction you can create just about anything from a major freeway, railway, water storage reservoir or new housing subdivision.

Our Certificate II qualification gives you the skills to enter the civil construction industry in an operational role.

You will gain  basic knowledge and skills. You will learn  to

  • Carry out basic levelling
  • Carry out measurements and calculations
  • Identify, locate and protect underground services
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Drain and dewater civil construction site
  • Carry out manual excavation
  • Spread and compact materials manually

This course will prepare graduates for opportunities in the civil construction industry ie.  a road construction/ maintenance company or similar in a company that works in housing estate development.

Careers

A graduate of this course, may gain an entry level position in the civil construction industry eg labourer in a road construction/ maintenance company or similar in a company that works in housing estate development.

Course Objectives

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working at operational role in civil construction, who undertake a prescribed range of tasks using limited practical skills and fundamental knowledge, in a defined context working under supervision.

Students must successful complete sixteen (16) units of study made up of: Thirteen (13) mandatory units Three (3) elective units

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • All students are interviewed for selection prior to admission. Language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 2 of the Australian Core Skill Framework.

  2. Submit a TAFE Direct Entry Application form
  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    Details about extra requirements are available from the Trades College.

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
