Advance your career in childcare and learn the skills to become a program manager or director of a children’s services centre. This course, delivered predominantly online, will develop your skills so you can provide specialist children’s services.

You will learn how to:

  • manage child care settings and run services in early childhood education and care
  • work intensively with clients with complex needs
  • mentor and supervise other workers

Course Objectives

This course aims to provide qualified children's services workers with advanced level management and leadership skills in early childhood education and care settings.

Units and electives

13 units must be selected for this qualification including:

• 7 compulsory units

• 6 elective units

A wide range of elective units is available and may include:

- Relevant electives listed below the compulsory units for this qualification – with some grouping to facilitate selection

At least TWO electives must be selected from the group of general electives

- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Community Services and/or Health Training Packages

- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, units of competency packaged at this level or higher in other relevant Training Packages.

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • Mature: Applicants must have successfully completed the Diploma of Children's Services (Early childhood education and care). CHC50908. Written application or equivalent.

  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    Details about extra requirements are available from the College of Education.

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
