Lecturer, College of Arts
John is the coordinator of the Bachelor of Communication degree and is a lecturer in professional and creative writing for the College of Arts.
John has worked as a freelance writer for many publications and organisations including The Age, The Western Times, and the ABC. He has had children's plays commissioned by the Melbourne Museum and the Melbourne Planetarium, and has been the recipient of several script development grants from The ABC and Film Vic.
John spent two years as media manager at the Western Bulldogs during which time the cub won the AFL Media Association Award for Club with the Best Media Relations. His first novel, Spincycle, was published in 2012 by Vulgar Press and was one of the Top Ten best sellers at that year's Melbourne Writers Festival.
John's research investigates the intersection of the digital, the interactive and narrative – how the relationships between author, reader, text and character change when stories enter that nexus. He has presented several conference papers and is currently completing a PhD, on this subject.
