Victoria University aims to build on its expertise as a centre of excellence in regional, national and transnational education and boost its research output over the next decade.

Our strategic plan encompasses the overall vision, mission and strategy for the direction of the University.

The VU Agenda Blueprint

The strategic plan is supported by a number of key Blueprints. Two of these Blueprints have been released; four more will be released in 2013.

Our mission

Victoria University will be renowned for empowering students:

  • from diverse countries and cultures, socio-economic and educational backgrounds to be successful lifelong learners
  • to grow their skills and capabilities for the changing world of work
  • to be confident, creative, ethical and respectful local and global citizens.

We will find creative and evidence-based solutions to important contemporary challenges in Australia, Asia and globally, relating especially to:

  • education and lifelong learning
  • health and active living
  • cultural diversity and well-being of communities
  • economic development and environmental sustainability
  • the success of particular industries and places, especially our heartland of the west of Melbourne, Australia's fastest growing region.

High level goals

We have three high level goals.

  1. We aim to be an outstanding learning and teaching institution, recognised as a:
    • leader by world standards in tertiary education of students from diverse countries, cultures, socio-economic and educational backgrounds
    • leader in Victoria providing pre-tertiary education for students from diverse backgrounds, especially for students from the west of Melbourne.
  2. We will be in the top 20 universities in Australia for research, with an emphasis on applied and translational research.
  3. We will be an Australian leader in exchanging knowledge with business, government and the community, to make the world a better place.

Distinctive specialisations

We aim to build either a national or world reputation for excellence in a number of distinctive specialisations for our learning and teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities.
We are already on target to becoming nationally and world-renowned in the field of sport and exercise science. Our distinctive specialisations are:

Our values guide the strategic plan. They are:

    We are an accessible and friendly university to students and staff from diverse countries and cultures, socio-economic and educational backgrounds, as well as to our industry, government and community partners.
  • Excellence
    We are committed to excellence in education, research and knowledge exchange.
  • Respect
    Our staff and students respect others from diverse countries and cultures, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. We also respect the natural environment.
