Overview

Learn to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired control devices.

Develop skills in isolation of low-voltage electrical supplies, disconnection and reconnection of control devices.

On completion, you should be able to:

  • work safely on control devices, identifying supply arrangements
  • follow isolation procedure
  • select and use testing and measuring devices
  • terminate and connect cables and conductors to Australian Standards
  • safety test and report on control devices.

This excludes disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc), and installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).

Restricted Electrical Licence or Disconnected/Reconnected Electrical Licence – please refer to your local licensing body for details concerning the jurisdictional conditions and requirements for the issue of a license.

Successful completion of the two (2) units within this Skill Set enables participants to work safely on electrical equipment; use electrical testing and measurement equipment and test electrical equipment as per Australian Standards AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 4836. On completion, graduates can apply to Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) to be recognised as a Class 2 Fault Finding Electrical Licence Holder after satisfying the additional ESV requirements which are detailed at http://www.esv.vic.gov.au/Electricity-Professionals/Licensing-and-registration/Restricted-Electrical-Workers-Licence

Course contents

On successfully completion of this course, students will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised skillset: UEESS00133 Restricted - Disconnection/Reconnection of Fixed Wired Low Voltage Electrical Equipment, which includes the unit of competence:

- UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

- UEERL0004 Disconnect - reconnect electrical equipment connected to low voltage (LV) installation wiring

Further, your electro technology skill set by learning how to disconnect/reconnect fixed wired low voltage electrical equipment over 5 consecutive days.

You'll gain a range of technical skills, including:

Working safely on electrical equipment

Isolating LV electrical supplies

Correct use of testing and measuring devices

Disconnecting and reconnecting electrical equipment

Terminating and connecting cables and conductors

Completing required reporting.

A Restricted Electrical Worker's Licence (REL) is required to carry out primary work functions relating to low voltage fixed electrical equipment, directly connected to the mains supply and requires isolation and disconnection to be repaired, replaced or maintained on-site. REL license holders issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES) upon completion of the work.

This skill set does not cover how to disconnect and reconnect circuits at the switchboard or to general electrical accessories, such as switches, socket outlets and lights, or electrical installation work. Participants for this course should hold a relevant Certificate III qualification or equivalent and already employed in the industry. You can be employed in mechanical fitting, hot water plumbing and other associated trades.

* evidence of holding a relevant Certificate III level or equivalent and has a trade background
