Global transportation and freight distribution involves planning and coordination to deliver goods or passengers from one location to another.

You will learn about various modes of transport and the supporting services, including:

  • roadways
  • railways
  • waterways
  • airways
  • warehousing
  • storage
  • freight forwarding
  • customs brokerage for both domestic and international trade.

Reflect on the transport-related pollution challenges facing the industry. How can innovative and reliable freight and distribution management solutions mitigate these to follow the Glasgow agreement (COP26) for net zero emission?


This unit will help you develop strategies to optimise freight-related activities for achieving triple bottom line sustainability. You also will gain hands-on skills by using the warehouse management system (WMS) technology for inbound and outbound logistics functions within the warehouse.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically reflect on transport policy, regulation and address challenges of freight distribution;
  2. Investigate and verify specialised knowledge of transport mode and route optimisation to review channels of distribution, pollution emission and green approach to sustainability based upon the reading of established academic literature;
  3. Collaborate with other team members to prepare a group industry report; and optimise warehouse activities using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) software; and,
  4. Conceptually map and synthesise information from various sources to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge in the field of transport and freight distribution.
