After a 10 per cent bump in applications, 46 Victoria University (VU) academics have been promoted.
Thursday 25 January 2024

The promotions include staff across the College of Arts, Business, Law, Education and IT, College of Sport, Health and Engineering, Institute for Health and Sport, Mitchell Institute, Centre of Policy Studies, and the First Year College.

“Congratulations to our colleagues on their outstanding achievement. It’s important we recognise and celebrate these wins,” Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Higher Education, Professor John Germov, said.

In addition to the overall lift in applications, there was also an increase in applications from women with 60 per cent of Level B and C positions and 67 per cent for Level D and E positions. Success rate was also high for these applications at 92 per cent and 86 per cent respectively.

Dr Mary Woessner, now a Senior Lecturer in the Institute for Health and Sport, was one of those promoted.

“As with all milestones, the iceberg effect is real, and while I acknowledge the promotion is of course recognising individual achievements, the truth is that I would never be where I am now, doing what I love with people I'm continually inspired by, without so many incredible humans lifting me and my work up,” Dr Woessner said.

The 2023 appointments followed a rigorous assessment by promotions panels, consistent with the Higher Education Academic Promotions Policy and Procedure. This included personal interviews with all applicants for promotion to Levels D and E and the participation of expert independent assessors in the process.

“Our sincere thanks go to everyone who applied for a promotion as well as to the members of the promotions panels who worked so hard to produce this excellent result,” Professsor Germov added.
