Join a sports club at VU
Victoria University (VU) has plenty of options for staff and students wanting to join a sporting club and play in local competitions. You can:
- join a team at an affiliated community club
- get some friends together and form a new team
- join a VU team and represent us at various university games and championships
- join an established VU student team
Athletics
This club is active in getting students organised and prepared to represent the University at national University Games and Championships and is affiliated with Essendon Athletics who have a strong and long history of student membership as well as elite athletes representing Australia at Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Australian Rules Men
Fancy a game of football? Join UHSVU a men's Australian football team with the following grades in 2012:

Australian Rules Women
The St Albans Spurs are looking for new players to play with their Youth Girls, reserves and senior teams. Even if you have never played football before come down and be part of a great club.

Badminton
Victoria University badminton is getting organised to send teams to the 2012 Australian University Games and also run come and try sessions, social competitions and regular training at the Footscray Park campus sport courts.

Cheerleading
The VU Vipers Cheerleading club meet twice weekly for competitive training in the level four (4) dance studio of the Aquatic and Fitness Centre Footscray park campus on Mondays (7:15-8:45am stunting) and Wednesday (7:00- 8:45am) and prepare teams for the Southern University Games where they are the current reigning champions. If you love acrobatics, tumbling, stunting, dancing, getting fit and enjoy a great team spirit this is for you!

Dragon Boat
Victoria University has a sporting affiliation with Dragon Masters Dragon Boat Club located at Docklands in Melbourne and the club is looking for social and competitive paddlers to become members.

Handball
Victoria University handball is getting organised for the 2012 Australian University Gamesand also compete each week on Sundays in the Victoria Handball league at the Carlton Baths.

Hapkido
It differs from other Martial Arts in that it does not conform to rigid angels and straight lines; it does not teach force against force. Hapkido requires no strength whatsoever. The Hapkido practitioner diverts the attackers flow of energy away from himself, in a smooth and fluid manner.
The Hapkido Centre based at the Werribee Campus Fitness Centre offers weekly classes for adults and children.
Monday and Wednesday evenings
Children’s class: 5.pm – 6.pm
Adults class: 7.pm – 8.30pm

Hockey
We have a strong affiliation with Werribee Hockey Club. The Club is situated in a key growth corridor of the Wyndham area a short distance from the University’s Werribee campus and has four 4 senior Men’s, 4 senior Women’s and 11 junior teams, totalling more than 300 playing and social members.

Judo
Victoria University Judo offers an opportunity to develop a range of skills including self-defence and self discipline. Judo is also considered to be a beneficial way of improving physical fitness, personal fitness and self confidence.
The Chief Instructor is Ingrid Wilby, a 5th Dan Black Belt with national and international credentials. Sensei Wilby is an experienced and dedicated instructor and able to assist both new and experienced students. The St Albans Judo Club generously hosts Victoria University, training is in conjunction with their members at their dojo. The VU Judo Club operates in partnership with the St Albans Judo Club and the City of Brimbank.
VU Judo Club meets at St Albans, 5.15 - 7.00 P.M. Tuesday and 5.30 – 7.15 P.M. Thursday and is open to students staff and friends of Victoria University. The training venue is St Albans Community Youth Club, 309a Main Rd, St Albans (next to Safeway & close to the St Albans Railway Station and the Victoria University St Albans Campus).
The cost is $3 per session.

Kendo
Kendo is a martial art originating from Japan and literally translates to “way of the sword”. The Victoria University Kendo club is based at the Footscray Park campus and in 2012 is running come-and-try events, beginners introductory courses, and weekly trainings. The club instructor is Arpad Maksay, 5th dan and current member of the Australian Team.

Kickboxing is great for fun, fitness, strength and a cardio workout. Join for fun or train competitively for Martial Arts tournaments.

Life Saving
We have an affiliation with Altona Life Saving Club who conduct patrols of the beach from November through to April and once members obtain minimum awards and patrolling requirements they can compete at a local carnival, state, national and international level. Lifesavers are encouraged to engage in regular competition to maintain skills and fitness through pool and beach competitions including ironman & ironwoman, surf Swimming, board race, ski race (U17+), beach sprint, beach flags, surf boats (U19+), rescue & resuscitation and a number of team related disciplines.

Mixed Martial Arts
We have an affiliation with Melbourne Martial Arts in the CBD opposite the City Flinders campus. One of the largest martial art centres in Victoria with over 70 classes a week, 3 training halls and gym. Classes cover Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, Kyokushin Karate and Brazilian Jujitsu.

Netball
Victoria University Western Lightning provides the Western region of Melbourne with elite netball representation, playing in the Victorian Netball League Competition in three divisions:

Rowing
Footscray City Rowing Club on the Maribyrnong River has coaches available to cater to all skill levels from beginner to elite. You can develop your skills and compete in city and country regattas or take it up a level and train and compete at state, inter-varsity and national regattas. Boats include:

Introductory courses and discounted rates for Victoria University students are available. Come and visit the club house, located at the rear of the Footscray Park campus, open every Sunday from 10am.
Rugby Union club
We have an affiliation with Footscray Rugby Union Football Club based at the rear of the VU Footscray Park campus.
The club has a long history supporting men’s in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th grade and also has women’s, colts and junior teams. The club welcomes any new players for 2012 whether experienced or novice.

Taekwondo
Regular taekwondo training opportunities run through VU’s branch of the Victoria Taekwondo Academy are available to students, whether you are experienced or new to this martial art. Training includes sparring, poomsae (pattern) and demonstration with fitness, self defence, stretching and strength components. VU is also very well represented in Taekwondo at the Australian University Games recording impressive results and in 2012 we aim to expand our team through all weight and belt divisions.

Touch Football
The Victoria University Touch Football Club formed from the enthusiastic women and men competing at Southern and Australian University Games over a number of years.
If you are looking for regular community competition, our mixed team has been competing in local leagues rotating players through the ranks and in 2010 was named Victoria University's Club of the Year. In 2011 the club was represented in Faulkner Park and Parkville competitions and in 2012 is looking to boost members through the formation of men's, mixed and women's teams to compete in club competition and University Games.

Water Polo
This club is affiliated with Essendon Water Polo Club who train out of our purpose-built water polo pool at the Footscray park campus on Monday evenings. The club recruits men, women and juniors (over 8 years).
All ages and abilities are welcome so come and have a go at our free (no obligations) training session.
