How Peter’s study investment is paying dividends

It’s rewarding to know that my degree has already paid off and I will continue applying my new knowledge in my organisation.

Peter Nalder’s Business degree delivered immediate rewards: he was able to apply his new knowledge and confidence to his work from day one. And, as his professional capital went up, so too did his focus, thanks to the VU Block Model.

“After graduating from high school in 2003, I gained several Certificate IV qualifications and years of corporate work experience.

Working full time in a junior role at the Department of Defence (non-military), I was looking to progress my career. I wanted to study a Business degree to develop my skills and strategic thinking, and to get clarity on what I wanted out of my career.

I started my VU Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) part time, to ensure I could balance study with work and life.

I was nervous when VU transitioned to the Block Model in 2018, but soon discovered it was a good way to hasten through my studies.

Then in 2020 (due to COVID-19), we switched to remote learning. With the VU Block Model you study one unit at a time, which made it easier to focus on the topics and stay motivated. In hindsight, it would have been great if Block Model had been available from the start.

From day one, I applied my learnings into my work at Defence. I progressed my career in real time, changing roles and getting promoted. In my final year, I gained an executive position as base manager. I was recently appointed a deputy director role in business process optimisation.

It’s rewarding to know that my degree has already paid off and I will continue applying my new knowledge in my organisation.

Apart from my career progression, studying has enhanced my time management skills. I’m certainly using those skills now, balancing work and life with a baby daughter!”
