Alysha Moore has been interested in travel since she was a child. After several overseas trips and experiences working and volunteering overseas, in 2018 Alysha enrolled in a Bachelor of Business, International Tourism and Event Management at VU. She is now completing her final year of her degree, working at Visit Victoria in a Work Integrated Learning capacity, as the tourism sector responds to unforeseen challenges.
“Travel has always fascinated me. I have good memories of family trips growing up. I began TAFE studies in tourism in 2013 before deciding to travel and work overseas. I did many solo overseas trips, worked at a summer camp in the US, and volunteered in South Africa. Between trips I also worked in retail in Australia.
"In 2018 I started my Bachelor of Business, International Tourism and Event Management. I have enjoyed the hands-on aspect."
At the end of last year an opportunity came up for me to work at Visit Victoria through the Work Integrated Learning program. I started in mid-January and it has been an incredible experience.
"While it is an unusual time – working during the coronavirus pandemic – I am very grateful to be a part of a team that is passionate about the revitalisation and recovery of the tourism industry, after a very challenging start to the year. My role is research-based: focusing on how businesses are faring in this climate. Part of this involves finding out about the new structures and innovative solutions businesses are implementing into their businesses during this time - such as virtual tours and free delivery services.
"Overall, the teams are helping each other with the workload and working on projects that haven’t really had the chance to be brought to life until now.
"It is inspiring to see how people come together in a crisis.”
