This course content covers the essential areas of cyber security, from proactive cyber threat detection and risk management to cyber law and regulations.
You'll learn from academic staff with a strong research record in cyber security, and industry experts with significant cyber security experience.
Guest lecturers with current experience in the cyber security industry will complement the academic staff and provide you with the latest developments in the field.
Specifically the content includes:
- cyber security fundamentals
- cyber security architecture
- cyber security technologies such as digital signature, public key infrastructure, virtual private networks, firewalls, intrusion detection, data encryption
- cloud security
- enterprise security
- cyber security regulation, policies and laws.
From 2021, this course will be delivered in eight-week mode, which means you study two units (subjects) at a time over eight weeks (or one unit at a time over eight weeks for part-time study), rather than juggling several units at once. To successfully attain the Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security, students will be required to complete:
- 48 credit points of core units
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
|1.||Critically apply cyber security knowledge and skills to new and uncertain situations in professional practice, exhibiting a high level of personal autonomy and accountability;|
|2.||Evaluate cyber security architecture and state-of-the-art technologies including firewalls, virtual private networks, public key infrastructure, digital signature and anti-malwares; and|
|3.||Apply commercial tools to secure computers and networks in enterprise and cloud systems to ensure privacy and prevent data loss;|
What's a unit?
A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take and optional elective units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.
Admission & pathways
Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.
Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any discipline
IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking)
