Overview

Gain recognition of your experience providing alcohol and other drug (AOD) support in the community and health industry.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set will give you specialised skills to recognise and work effectively with clients who experience alcohol and/or other drug issues.

This course meets the minimum requirement set by the Department of Health and Human Services so you can establish or extend the parameters of your current employment in the AOD sector of community health.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set has been endorsed by industry and is suitable for people who have (one of):

  • a relevant qualification at Certificate III level or above in community services, health, or related field
  • skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through recognition of prior learning
  • substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.

Course contents

To be granted a CHCSS00093 Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set Statement of Attainment all four (4) core units must be completed.

Do you currently work in the community and health industry with a focus on alcohol and drug support?  Do you want your current skills recognised or would you like to acquire further skills and knowledge for potential movement into this area?  If yes, then this is the course for you.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set reflects the skill requirements for support workers providing services to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues and meets the minimum requirement set by the Department of Health and Human Services for people seeking to establish or extend the parameters of current employment within the alcohol and other drugs sector within community health. It has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

- hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in community services, health, or related field, or;

- have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through recognition of prior learning, or;

- have substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.

Admission requirements

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course.

Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

- hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field, or;
- have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process, or;
- have substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.

Prior to enrolment, all applicants will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment to assist with determining eligibility and to identify learning support needs.
