Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to select and use industry relevant technologies suited to the task. It covers skills to evaluate the use of current technology, and to identify and evaluate emerging technologies which will enhance service delivery.


This unit applies to any type of sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations. It applies to a range of individuals, working at different levels of responsibility, who use industry relevant technology to support the delivery of sport, fitness, aquatic and recreation services.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • use sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation industry-specific technology on two occasions according to task requirements
  • use monitoring equipment and clearly and consciously explain results to relevant individuals on two occasions
  • capture, with relevant permissions, two audio visual recordings for the purposes of capturing information or enhancing participant activity performance and share and explain results with relevant individuals
  • source information on two different types of new or improved technologies specifically relevant to the sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation industries
  • evaluate ways in which the above two technologies can enhance service delivery.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • organisational policies and procedures for the use, care and storage of technology equipment
  • specific to the sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation environment:
  • how to access manufacturer instructions and user guides for equipment and software
  • sources of information on emerging industry technologies and technical information
  • legal and ethical requirements for the use of monitoring technology and audio visual recordings:

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
