Nathaniel Ioannou used his course’s practical focus and his love for the media industry as motivators to succeed. His exciting career continues to grow in television and radio.
"The Bachelor of Screen Media was the perfect choice as I was passionate about the industry – it’s almost magical to me. And I knew that at VU I’d get the best education aligned to my career goals.
While studying, I worked as a traffic reporter on KIIS 101.1 and the TODAY Show. In second year, I also completed an advanced course with the Radio Training Institute, and hosted my own radio programs.
With the practical placements at VU, you get to amalgamate your theory and critical thinking skills into real-life projects. This invaluable experience can help shape your career direction and lets you explore different areas that suit you.
I enjoyed working with real clients and producing pieces that they’ve since used to promote their businesses. The entire process from receiving the brief, to final post-production was a great way to refine all the skills I’d learnt across the degree, and form industry networks.
The smaller class sizes encouraged teamwork and strong connections, which have continued. Everyone was so dedicated, which shone through in our group assessments.
The lecturers were fully supportive and wanted us to succeed and develop. When you’re working as part of a cohesive team, it makes the learning experience richer.
I currently work in promotions at The Fox 101.9 and Triple M 105.1, and I’m continuing to expand my skills in on-air radio announcing, voiceover work and audio production. This is something I developed a passion for throughout my degree and want to explore further."
