Doctor of Psychology

Since graduating from VU with a Doctor of Psychology, Theresa Marasco found employment in a range of different workplaces before setting up a private practice of her own.

“During my time at VU I completed four placements over five years, which I found extremely valuable in preparing me to practise as a clinical psychologist. The training I received throughout my studies was rigorous, and not only did I feel prepared but also competent and confident when it came time to commence employment. In addition to knowledge and work experience, I developed resilience and a ‘never give up attitude’ towards following my passion. I learnt life skills beyond my expectations.

Throughout my practical placements I made many professional contacts and developed positive relationships with each of my supervisors. These contacts became references for subsequent employment opportunities. I learnt a great deal from the experts in my field – they helped me grow professionally and helped me find career direction.

VU staff members were supportive, encouraging, and highly knowledgeable across all levels of my study – bachelors, honours and doctorate. I was trained in psychodynamic theories and cognitive behavioural therapy intervention by experts in the field, which has been extremely advantageous for my career. From a social point of view, I enjoyed the special connections and lifelong friends I made throughout my university journey.

In recent years I completed further study in clinical hypnotherapy and neurolinguistic programming, and I’m currently running my own private practice. In the future I plan to continue to grow my business as well as expand on my professional skills.”
