Overview
In this unit, students will undertake a mandatory fieldwork placement, consisting of 60 hours of placement, and in-class course work. Fieldwork requires students to apply their knowledge and use their interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills. In the workshops, students will discuss their fieldwork experiences in the light of psychological theory. Assignments take this process further by asking students to apply psychological frameworks to real-life work issues arising from their fieldwork experiences.
All placement activities for this unit must be pre-approved and authorised by the Undergraduate Psychology Placement Officer. Credit will not be applied retrospectively for unauthorised activities. Students may be required to complete a proportion of the placement hours before undertaking the unit.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- Critically reflect on and establish self-directed, professional development goals;
- Exhibit reflective practice, to guide their learning and to link academic learning with applied experiences;
- Elucidate fieldwork related issues and propose solutions; and
- Critically review how psychological theory, knowledge and skills can be applied to work issues, professional roles and settings.
