Develop practical barbering skills with the Introducation to Barbering Skills short course at Victoria University (VU).
This short course is designed to help you develop practical barbering skills in a supportive and hands-on learning environment. It focuses on building your confidence in foundational barbering techniques.
By the end of the course, you will have the skills needed to work in a safe and professional manner, providing services including:
- basic haircutting
- clipper work
- beard maintenance
- grooming services.
Prepare for barbering work
The short course will prepare you to look for:
- employment in barbershops and salons
- mobile barbering or freelance work
- work in retail-chain salons providing barbering services.

You need to be older than 17 at course commencement.

Course structure
Class times
Part-time (day):
Students are required to attend scheduled classes 1 day per week over 5 weeks.
Approximate class times: 9:30am–4pm
Part-time (evening):
Students are required to attend scheduled classes 2 evenings per week over 5 weeks.
Approximate class times: 5pm–8pm
Part-time (intensive):
Students are required to attend scheduled classes for 5 consecutive days over a week.
Approximate class times: 9.30am–4pm
Students will receive a certificate of participation.
