Overview

Start learning the basics of English, with Victoria University's Course in Initial EAL 22636VIC.

During this course you will learn to sound and read words, and to recognise and write letters. You will also begin to develop handwriting skills.

You will develop the skills in the following:

  • recognising letters of the alphabet and their sounds
  • recognising and writing letters and numbers
  • beginning to identify digital media.

This certificate is part of the Western Melbourne English Program (WMEP).

The program offers a range of services, including counselling, and housing and financial advice.

Skills First (subsidised) indicative fees

The Skills First government contribution in 2024 towards this course is $4,283.13. If eligible, you will pay:

  • Tuition: $333.75*
  • Materials: $0
  • Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF): maximum per year $175.50**

Course contents

To be awarded the 22636VIC Course in Initial EAL, a total of six (6) core units of competency must be achieved.

22636VIC Course in Initial EAL is designed for adult for whom English is an additional language and who have no experience of formal education. This course will support students to develop basic English lanuage skills in preparation for participation in the community and further education.

This course, you will begin to develop English language skills such as:

* recognising the letters of the alphabet
* speak and read words
* recognising and writing letters and numbers

* completing simple language taasks using technology

Upon completion of this course you will be able to undertake further study in English and continue to develop your skills.

Note - Location availability will depend on student demand. Location preferences and availability are discussed with applicants during the application process.
