Western United make history as champions
Congratulations to Western United FC on their heart-stopping two goal win against Melbourne City last Saturday.
The 2021/2022 Isuzu UTE A-League Men season has finally come to an end, with Western United FC making its mark on the competition as champions.
The club has concluded its third season in the league, with its first piece of silverware. Victoria University Polytechnic joins the community of the West in celebrating this historic moment.
Led by stand-in captain and VU student Josh Risdon, Western United showed incredible discipline and team work as they managed to hold off any opposition goals, until the final whistle.
Aleksandar Prijovic was a worthy winner of the Joe Marston Medal, as player of the match. He was instrumental in both Western United goals.
2022 marks a momentous year for the club, with the announcement of a licence for the club to field a team in the Liberty A-League Women competition for the 2022/2023 season.
VU Polytechnic have partnered with Western United since their inception in 2019. We look forward to continuing to share a passion and commitment to Melbourne’s West and greater western region of Victoria.
