Another nail biting finish, sees the Western Bulldogs through to the Preliminary Finals.

The Western Bulldogs snagged a one-point win over the Brisbane Lions in what was a tough contest to the end.

Footy fans across the country were on the edge of the seats in the final minutes of the Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions game on Saturday night.

It was a final that had just about everything, score leads from both teams at every change, concussed players, including VU student Cody Weightman, to spectacular goals in a final quarter.

At the thirty minute mark, with two minutes to go Bailey Smith, scored an incredible left foot running goal from the boundary line to put the Bulldogs six points clear. A quick run out of the next centre bounce resulted in a goal by Lion’s Zac Bailey evened the scores.

In the blur that was the final minutes, Bulldog, Laitham Vandermeer squeezed a kick through for a behind to give his team the one-point lead. With thirty seconds to go the ball managed to make its way to the Brisbane end. A throw in on the boundary, led to a kick in the air that was marked by Bulldog, Rourke Smith. Smith’s next kick, unfortunately found itself in the hands of the Lions, Dayne Zorko. Zorko took one final kick, unfortunately kicking the ball out on the full, Bulldogs took possession with five second to go and the win was theirs.

They will now hit the road for a third straight week and face Port Adelaide. VU student Josh Dunkley said “With one week before a finals birth we are going to recover first, than obviously attack the week with full excitement and joy and we are really looking forward to taking on the challenge against Port Adelaide.”
