Moondani Balluk – Indigenous Academic Unit
Moondani Balluk is the Indigenous Academic Unit at Victoria University (VU). We work across Aboriginal, non-governmental organisations and community spaces, using de-colonial approaches to learning and teaching. We conduct research and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students while they study with us.
Our team works to create and foster:
- a culturally safe environment that welcomes, nurtures and recreates based on relationships to land, culture, law and elders
- sharing of Aboriginal knowledge, translating and embedding Aboriginal practices into all our work, research and curricula
- respect for all people through mutually engaged relation
We maintain close links and relationships with the Aboriginal community, students, staff, researchers, partners and the government. At Moondani Balluk, we offer:
- courses and units with an Aboriginal focus
- student assistance and support
- scholarships via our Moondani Balluk student grants
- cultural activities for staff and students
- support for Aboriginal research and researchers, and access to the extensive Aboriginal History Archive (AHA)
- collaboration with community and government groups.
