Victoria University has a strong and continuing commitment to the trades sector. The Trades College is focused on the delivery of apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, skills recognition and other programs tailored to industry needs.
Our programs are highly regarded by industry for their innovative approach to skills development. We offer:
- nationally accredited courses ranging from Certificates I to IV
- skills development for pre-apprentices, apprentices, trainees and current workers including short courses
- skills recognition (recognition of prior learning) including skills assessments for Permanent Migration (GSM and ENS) and Temporary Worker Visa 457 visas
- tailored workforce development for enterprises both nationally and internationally.

ConstructionWe offer a wide range of courses in building and construction from pre-employment programs through to para-professional skill development.
EngineeringWe specialise in electrical, electrotechnology, fabrication and fitting & turning courses, including short courses and specialist training.
HairdressingWe offer a range of hairdressing courses and have been awarded 3 gold stars by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence for our hairdressing training.
HospitalityVU is a recognised leader in hospitality training. Our programs are delivered through our partnerships with Academy Sofitel and Le Cordon Bleu.

Specialisations and expertise
The Trades College has vital connections with industry and enterprises that put us in good stead to successfully meet the workforce needs now and into the future.
Through our employer engagement, we have redesigned our approach to apprenticeship pedagogy and now offer flexible learning delivery options and new assessment practices which include relevant task-based projects. Bringing together competencies into projects mean higher quality, complex training that develops skilled job-ready graduates.
We are a leader in the development of trades education products including higher level apprenticeships and pathway opportunities into the Victoria University Colleges.
The Trades College construction program is based at our Sunshine campus home of the brand new $44 million state-of-the-art industry training facility.
The 6 Green Star rated building will be an example of environmental design excellence, incorporating the latest renewable energy, water preservation, solar design and temperature technologies to reduce VU's carbon footprint. The building has been developed to be flexible and adaptable so that it can be modified to meet training needs, industry demand and emerging technologies. This includes equipping the workforce of the future with green skills, through innovative teaching and materials but also through the sustainable nature of the building itself.
The Trades College is positioning itself as a leader in research, policy and practices that will transform future apprenticeships and trades training.
