Overview

Students will develop academic-focused skills and foundational business knowledge and explore career and study options. Students will also develop a course plan that will help them prepare for future job successes.

In challenges and activities that model real-world issues in a professional business framework, students will experience what career success might look like for them.

Student will explore and develop:

  • decision-making skills
  • team dynamics
  • conflict management and resolution
  • critical thinking
  • information analysis skills
  • professional business presentation and communication tactics.

By the end of this unit, student will have a clearer picture of themselves as an emerging business professional.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the ethical, social, cultural, political, economic and legal dimensions of effective business practice;
  2. Develop and demonstrate foundational business skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, information and academic literacy, oral, written and digital communication;
  3. Create a personal course and career plan by applying critical thinking to investigate business interests, employability skills sets and career motivation; and,
  4. Collaborate and propose creative solutions for business case projects using problem-solving strategies.
  5. Participate in an academic community through reflective and critical engagement in academic texts and understanding of principles of academic integrity.
