The unit will prepare students for starting and running a small IT business. It will enable students to research and develop a new IT business proposal. The students will role-play four forms of business ownership: sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation and trusts. The unit provides the opportunity for them to have a broad and coherent body of knowledge, including the types of IT-related businesses; business plan development; business functions: marketing, location, operations, staffing, accounting; government assistance; e-business; home-based business; taxation; borrowing; franchising; social, environmental and ethical considerations.
