Overview

This unit aims to provide students with the advanced skills needed to determine and advise on specific visa options, namely, in the family, spouse and other related visas of migration law. The unit also develops a student’s research capacity to find appropriate legal materials and the requirements for specific visas and criteria for obtaining visas. In addition, students will develop the problem-solving skills needed to apply this legal knowledge to particular situations when looking for solutions, visa options and pathways for clients.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse and interpret a range of visas and legislative requirements to provide accurate and appropriate advice to clients.
  2. Apply advanced knowledge and demonstrate expertise in visa application procedures to ensure compliance and validity.
  3. Evaluate and determine when and how to undertake appropriate research to prepare submissions, and applications and effectively advocate for clients.
  4. Research, synthesise, and formulate appropriate strategies for providing effective advice to clients.
  5. Prepare and produce appropriate, communications, submissions and applications to government and other stakeholders, ensuring clarity and adherence to regulatory standards.
