Overview

Investigate the theory and practice of financial records and reporting in the Accounting Information System unit.

Financial information is crucial to decision making in small business, large industry operations and public enterprise. Accounting professionals are pivotal contributors to this process, providing accurate and insightful financial information.

In this unit, you will learn about:

  • manual and computerised recording and reporting of financial information in Australia
  • the historical cost accounting systems
  • legal, professional and conceptual frameworks within which the accounting professional operates.

By the end of the unit, you will have developed the skills and knowledge required in accounting roles to record transactions and present the financial situation of organisations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Adapt and propose the application of theoretical and technical accounting knowledge to various business structures;
  2. Exhibit professional judgement to resolve financial reporting issues;
  3. Articulate the accounting concepts that relate to specific business transactions; and
  4. Employ accounting software to record business transactions and generate financial reports.
