This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to gather, critically analyse, organise, and manage information from online research as part of further study tasks. The unit applies to learners who need to carry out online research and analysis to complete tasks in a tertiary study context. No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
Assessment must confirm the ability to: Use at least two academic search engines to plan and participate in two
academic research tasks including:
o using effective online search techniques
o collecting, critically analysing, and recording information,
independently or with others
o clarifying the purpose and scope of each research task
o identifying references from texts for further investigation.
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
