This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop the verbal communication skills required to participate in a tertiary study context. The unit applies to persons seeking to enter tertiary study through alternative pathways and who need to apply verbal communication skills to academic study tasks. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
Participate in two academic verbal group interactions including:
• one group discussion on a selected topic including: using appropriate language, tone, and etiquette, expressing and justifying a point of view clearly and respectfully.
• one collaborative task based on an academic project using interactive strategies to plan and complete the project.
Plan and deliver a structured verbal presentation using academic conventions.
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
