Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to develop strategies to identify and explore own self development needs. This unit applies to learners with intellectual disability who wish to explore their own self development needs. Learners at this level will require high levels of teacher/mentor support.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • Identify own self development needs
  • Identify two independent life skills and strategies to achieve them.
  • Identify two aspects of respectful and safe relationships and strategies to maintain them.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • features of socially responsible and protective behaviours to support respectful relationships.
  • sources of information and support for self development needs.
  • personal safety of self and others within relationships.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
