Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • safely prepare, handle, use and store at least four different power tools appropriate for simple plumbing tasks.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • purpose and function of plumbing power tools
  • power sources and types used for plumbing power tools
  • workplace documentation used for using plumbing power tools
  • terminology when using basic plumbing power tools
  • techniques used for basic plumbing power tools
  • workplace safety requirements and legislation, including personal protective equipment used when using basic plumbing power tools
  • Australian standards, plumbing/building codes, legislation and regulations relevant to using basic plumbing power tools
  • quality assurance requirements and procedures related to using basic plumbing power tools
  • sustainability principles and requirements related to using basic plumbing power tools.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
