Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to plan, design, carry out and review a project based activity focusing on an identified area of interest or need. It applies to learners wishing to develop a range of literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills through practical application in an activity in a context and/or around a specific content area. Learners at this level work independently and use their own familiar support resources.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • plan and discuss project requirements
  • apply own knowledge and interests to selection of topic or project activities
  • gather information to undertake the project
  • plan and follow steps to complete the project
  • complete tasks or manage own activities according to identified time frames
  • use digital devices and tools
  • use digital devices safely
  • access digital information to plan and complete the project
  • apply routine digital netiquette conventions

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • methods to present and record information for the project
  • potential barriers to completing a project and strategies to manage these
  • different approaches to undertake a project
  • project plans and delivery methodologies
  • contributing factors to project success

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
